"You will find that the mere resolve not to be useless, and the honest desire to help other people, will, in the quickest and delicatest ways, improve yourself." ~ John Ruskin
Helping others is an activity that most of us enjoy - humans are compassionate creatures, after all - but sometimes fear and uncertainty can keep us from helping. We may doubt our own ability to help effectively, or perhaps we fear the embarassment of having our help rejected. In some cases, we may even be afraid of unpleasant repercussions. What we must remember, though, is that even a clumsy gesture is better than none at all. And the best way to become less clumsy? Practice, of course. The more you push aside your fear and make an attempt, the better and more skilled your future attempts become.
